Review: JRAD at Brooklyn Bowl 3/9

Looking back at a JRAD show and trying to write a recap can always be a fun project, as most JRAD shows that I’ve seen (easily over 20) has a standout performer from that night. The standout performer, in this one writer’s humble opinion, from the 3/8 show was Scott Metzger, as he was given many of the lead guitar solos. When re-examining the 3/9 show, it would be hard to pick one particular member of the band that stood out, but rather a combination of the boys. However, last night, in my mind, Dave Dreiwitz on bass and Marco on keys particularly shone. And I’d say that that was a rarity for me, as I oftentimes cannot pick up on specific major moments from Dave. But he was driving the train last night, and man was that train raging!!

David Byrne Performs ‘Everybody’s Coming To My House’ with Stephen Colbert

Last night, the former Talking Heads singer David Byrne performed a song off of his new album American Utopia “Everybody’s Coming to My House” on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

As a special surprise, Colbert joined Byrne and four members of his backing band to sing the chorus of the song that will be on the first David Byrne solo LP in 14 years.

The Biggie Smalls Brooklyn Tour

Today Marks The 21th Anniversary Of Biggie Smalls’ Death

21 years ago today, the entire city mourned as it learned that Christopher Wallace, better known at The Notorious B.I.G. and Biggie Smalls, had been killed in an L.A. drive-by shooting. Though he was shot in Los Angeles, Biggie was born, raised, and made a name for himself in Bed-Stuy and throughout the New York City streets.

You can still tour Biggie’s old stomping grounds that he brought to life with his iconic music. The Bed-Stuy neighborhood may have changed significantly since Biggie’s day, but you can still find his style, his essence and his unique spirit in murals around the neighborhood and at some of his favorite haunts. Here is a road map on where to find these gems.
