FEATURED VIDEOS

Frankie Simone’s unique brand of queer pop feels clearly like there is a new musical movement building in Portland. It is percussive, catchy and polished as it gets; moreover, it is also strikingly mindful. Let’s call it pop with a purpose. What is very clear is that Simone simply accepts herself, as herself.

12 years and five albums later, folk band Horse Feathers shares a fresh sound on “Without Applause.” The quiet, subtle tenor of singer’s Justin Ringle’s vocals along with the band’s delicate arrangements have earned the group a huge and dedicated fan base; however, this album is about a musical evolution. A seriously soulful, 70s rhythm section creates an energetic and metaphysical sound. The band’s new album, “Appreciation,” will be available via Kill Rock Stars on May 4.
