A Jean-Michel Basquiat Broadway Musical Is in Development

The life and career of artist Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960–1988) will soon be immortalized in song.  Basquiat, one of the most influential artists of the late 20th century, will be the subject of a new Broadway-bound musical composed by Jon Batiste, bandleader and musical director of CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

John Lennon Stamps Available via US Postal Service

The newest stamps in the Music Icons series honor singer and songwriter John Lennon (1940-1980), a rock-and-roll hero successful both as a founding member of the Beatles and as a solo artist. Still quite beloved around the world Lennon’s music remains an anchor of radio stations through out the USA and the world. John Lennon continues to speak for truth and peace.

The stamp design features a photograph of Lennon snapped by noted rock-and-roll photographer in August 1974, Bob Gruen.  During the photo session for Lennon’s 1974 album Walls and Bridges. For the stamps, the original black-and-white image has been treated in gradations of color.

75th Anniversary of “Bicycle Day!” Mountain Girl gives Hoffman Acid Test diploma

Today is the 75th anniversary of the first “Bicycle Day”

On April 19, 1943 at 4:20 p.m. — 75 years ago today — the Swiss chemist Albert Hofmann deliberately ingests 250 micrograms of LSD in the presence of his lab assistants at the New Products Laboratory division of Sandoz Pharmaceuticals in Basel, Switzerland.

Three days earlier, on April 16, Hofmann had accidentally absorbed a minute quantity of LSD through his fingertips and, in his words, experienced “a remarkable restlessness … a not unpleasant intoxicated-like condition characterized by an extremely stimulated imagination.”

Banksy Returns to New York with 14th Street Rat

It’s been more than five years since Banksy’s famous New York City residency had street art fans and treasure hunters trekking all over town every day to see the secretive artist’s latest intervention. However, it appears that Banksy is back in the Big Apple! Graffiti artist Banksy is thrilling New York City residents once again with his latest work depicting a rat (which is one of his trademark stencils) running along the inner circumference of a clock adorning a building façade, with the distinctive silhouette of the Empire State Building looming in the background.
