John Mayer & Eric Krasno talk Grateful Dead, Guitar Gear & Songwriting in New Podcast

LOCKN’ Music Festival frankly was one of the best festivals this year.  It has been almost 10 days since the jam band mafia took over The Farm in Arrington, Virginia, yet the fans continually are blessed with more and more pictures, audio, videos, and fresh content continues to be bestowed on us fans! The standout highlights have been videos of the phenomenal Foundations of Funk, Lettuce’s JGB set which were the 2 best-received sets of the weekend and included at least 3 Dead & Company members in unannounced sit-ins.  While nerding out over all the unique collaborative content, the LOCKN’ Festival has also released a new podcast episode.

10 Things Not To Miss At LOCKN’ FESTIVAL

I am headed at this moment down to the 6th Annual LOCKN’ Music Festival and I cannot wait! This is my 3rd trip down to what is loveling known as ‘The Farm’ in Arrington, Virginia. This festival is the one I look most forward to every year because of its primary focus on jam bands and funk; moreover, the philosophy of the whole festival focuses on music improvisation and collaboration with artists that you wouldn’t usually see together. This festival’s brainchild is Peter Shapiro who is the founder of some iconic, cutting-edge venues like Brooklyn Bowl and The Capitol Theatre, not to mention he is the iconoclast that got the remaining Grateful Dead members (along with Trey Anastasio) to curate their final performances together dubbed “Fare Thee Well.” My favorite hashtag I have ever created is #peteshapiroismyhero and if you have ever been to any of his events or venues…you would know why!

Eric Krasno’s New Project The E3 Organ Trio just announced 2 shows

Eric Krasno just announced his first show for his new band, The E3 Organ Trio featuring 3 Eric’s – Eric Krasno (guitar), Eric Kalb (drums) and Eric Finland (organ) on Thursday, May 31st at Rockwood Music Hall at 10 PM.

Eric Krasno is a 2x Grammy-winning guitarist, multi-instrumental musician & producer best known for his work with Soulive, Lettuce, Tedeschi Trucks Band & Pretty Lights. For nearly two decades, Eric Krasno has been an omnipresent figure in popular music. We’ve heard his virtuosic, innovative guitar playing with Soulive and Lettuce (both of which he co-founded), seen him onstage supporting the likes of the Rolling Stones, Dave Mathews Band, John Mayer and The Roots, watched him take home multiple GRAMMY Awards, and benefited from his deft, behind-the-scenes work as a producer and songwriter for everyone from Norah Jones, Tedeschi Trucks, and 50 Cent to Talib Kweli, Aaron Neville, and Allen Stone. Krasno’s recent solo album, ‘Blood From A Stone,’ reveals a previously unknown and utterly compelling side of his artistry, though, inviting us to bear witness as he both literally and metaphorically finds his voice.

The E3 Organ Trio was born out of Eric Krasno’s love of soul/jazz and organ funk of the 60s and 70s. He decided to join forces with Eric Kalb and Eric Finland. Eric Kalb is an established NYC drummer who plays with Eric in the Eric Krasno Band. Eric Kalb has been on the scene for many years playing with such greats like John Scofield, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, Charlie Hunter and The Greyboy AllStars.

Eric Finland is a NYC based keyboardist specializing in the B3 Hammond organ. Eric Finland studied at the Berklee College of Music and has had the honor of sharing the stage with Greg Allman, Michael McDonald, George Clinton, Ian Hendrickson-Smith, Scott Sharrard, Paul Shaffer and many more. He is also a music director for multiple projects.

This is the first time these 3 awesome Eric’s are playing together in public for the first time under The E3 Organ Trio moniker.

On June 2nd, this trio will hit Garcia’s in Port Chester which is a sister music venue in the same storied building as The Capitol Theatre. Tickets go on Pre-Sale for this event tomorrow. Additionally, opening for The E3 Trio is Danny & Mary which consists of Danny Mayer and Mary Corso. Guitarist Danny Mayer and vocalist Mary Corso have officially joined forces to create an extremely soulful duo. They have spent the past 3 years developing their unique sound through a variety of experiences in the funk and rock scene. Danny and Mary’s most recent experience was touring with Grammy winner Eric Krasno. They have been fortunate enough to share the stage with Phil Lesh, Warren Haynes, Doyle Bramhall, and Marcus King. Danny Mayer’s emotional bluesy sound and Mary Corso’s sultry vocals create a passionate energy that is tangible, contagious, and inspiring in their live performances. With catchy relatable originals and soulful renditions of classic covers, they’ve captivated audiences all over the country. This fierce duo is looking forward to their future adventures of releasing new music and continuing to perform live.

Eric Krasno & Chapter 2 slay The Blue Note NYC

Eric Krasno and Chapter 2 featuring Nigel Hall, Louis Cato and Chris Loftlin spent the last 3 nights absolutely slaying the Blue Note in NYC in 6 sold out shows. A nor’ easter blanketing the NYC metro area could not even keep the jazz heads home as word had clearly gotten out how smoking the last 2 nights/4 sets had been that the Blue Note literally were turning people away that had bought tickets for tables because so many people showed up for the early show.

New Soulive Album – EP Cinematics, Vol. 1

Soulive, comprised of Neal Evans, Alan Evans and Eric Krasno released their first collection of new music in six years with their long-awaited EP Cinematics, Vol. 1. The EP takes its name from its five tracks’ cinematic quality, and the band’s press release even offers some thoughts on the types of films that might be complemented each song (“Kings March”, for instance, could work with a vintage spy thriller).
